5 Spanish Police Officers Arrested for Fighting!
2 groups of off-duty cops brawled using FISTS & BOTTLES in a Bar
FIVE National Police Officers have been arrested after participating in a fight during the early hours of Friday with other policemen in a nightlife area in which several people were injured. The incident was reported on Saturday by police sources. The scuffle occurred in the village of “Marinero” where 5 riot officers got into a fight with 5 regular officers from another city. The reason they began to argue inside one of the local bars is unknown.
The discussion ended in a fistfight! Bottles were also used!
2 Policemen were taken to hospital due to their injuries.
The off-duty scrapping cops were arrested by on-duty colleagues who had been alerted. The detained officers gave statements at the Police Station [Where they work?!] and were released pending the Court’s decision on the case.

PARTY REVIEW: Serrano "Open Air" Launch
MADRID NIGHTLIFE was at this Launch Party
Sam Kay visited Serrano 41 “Open Air” nightclub on Friday [19 June] with a group of 5 girl friends, with high hopes of a great night - having been going out in Madrid, on a Saturday, quite a few times.
"The location is perfect because there’s Metro and bus home at any time of the night. However, I was disappointed from the very beginning...
Having arrived “early-ish” (12.25am) I wasn’t expecting to have to wait to be seated at a table that we had pre-booked. Knowing it was first-come-first-served I did not want to be placed somewhere terrible in the club!
On arrival we stood in a different line from the normal entry and it took us 40 minutes to enter the club, at one stage we were asked to go behind a group of girls who had just shown up, who seemed to be “flirting” their way in. Finding this very unprofessional I started to question what was happening and why was it taking so long. The entrance system was run by what can only be described as a bunch of little boys who didn't have much knowledge of how it all worked and no one seemed to be the boss.
Finally we entered and were stood – YES! STOOD! - by a table in the middle of the dance floor which was not even big enough for our bottles to fit on, and then once our bottle was finished we were asked to move on to make way for someone else. This is not the first time I have bought a bottle in a night club with a table but I've never been asked to move!
The plus sides are the DJ played a good mix of music all night and you can use their huge smoking area, as well as the drinks were like THE CHEAPEST IN MADRID* [only €50 for a bottle] but people who arrived after us and paid the same price were seated on better sofas.
"My only complaint really was that people who pay same price should all be treated the same, you know!?"
In conclusion, this is an ideal nightclub for a random cheap and cheerful night out; but wouldn’t recommend it for a big celebration or a nicer occasion.
I’m not writing-off this venue, I’m just suggesting they could be a bit more organised!
I will revisit this venue AGAIN in a few weeks to see if maybe it has changed at all as I do love this nightclub and the bottles there are the cheapest I've discovered in Madrid nightclubs so far...
- OPIUM: €200
- FORTUNY: €140
- TEATRO BARCELO: €130
- NEW GARAMOND: €100
- JOY ESLAVA: €100
- BANLOO: €100
- COCO: €100
- TARTUFO: €100
- PRIVE: €90
- CATS-MITTY: €80
- PENELOPE: €75
- MARCO ALDANY: €60

SUMMER FESTIVAL IN MADRID TODAY
Lisa LaBeau Reporting Live…
Big Summer Kick Off to Festivities this Afternoon at “Akua”
This is a great party for the summer solstice!
Akua is an exciting outdoor nightclub in Madrid with beautiful people and today's weather is perfect.
Why wouldn't I want to be here?
Akua has a unique design; there are small separate pools around the venue, each on different levels.
The fountains and water jets make Akua very ascetically appealing.
But let’s not forget about the dancing. People are dancing in the water, on the stairs and on the dance floor.
Many different DJs are playing during the day and night, with the sound amplified all around the venue. I had the opportunity to speak to the first DJ who played on the set…
Joss de Pfyffer
How does it feel to play at big events?
“It’s my fourth one so far and sometimes it’s nerve racking, but whatever happens, you have fun and it’s a way to party and work at the same time.”
Do you have any future projects?
“Yes, in September I’ll be working with Twist for Erasmus students... taking them to new and exciting places.”
What kind of Music do you play?
“Deep house!”
How's the sound system and today's venue?
“They were both really great! It was fun to play here!”
Akua also has great views of Madrid. There are many places to sit-down about the venue, and there are also some very relaxing areas where you can take a break if you danced excessively.
Akua party is going on the whole summer, so don’t miss this chance to check out the outdoor/ daytime/ pool party/ clubbing scene whenever you can!

Not surprising the concert was deserted: by the time the band ended their second song, almost 500 attendees demanded an encore. "We didn't test for acoustic format" Gary apologized, and immediately improvised a funky tune to the delight of the audience.
- "No idea they were going to play. They were my favourite band, I had posters and everything; what a surprise" said an excited woman close to 50. "They're older, but that's adorable: they're growing old with us," her friend added.
- "My parents have all their albums. They're going to freak out when show them" exclaimed a young woman after the concert.
- "They're my idols, but I never thought I would find them here, playing live. It is the best thing that happened in my life!" said an 21-year-old English Erasmus student while waiting to get an autograph from Tony and taking pictures with her mobile.

FOOTBALL SUPPORTER MURDERED
POLICIA NACIONAL ARREST 18 MORE (3 under age) over fatal incident between rival supporters
2 CHARGED WITH MURDER
Detained this morning: 15 in Madrid, 2 in Toledo and 1 in Valencia
Video recorded by taxi driver helped identify who threw Jimmy in the river...
- Only 4 of the 7 suspects were arrested and imprisoned
- Camera recordings identified 108 thugs the morning of the fight
- The fight had been pre-agreed, but main focus was on locating culprits
- €60,000 “Anti-violence” fine for 56 hooligans involved in the brawl
TODAY 2 people were charged with the murder of
Francisco Javier Romero aka “Jimmy”
The investigation continues...
The mass brawl took place 30th November 2014 by Madrid’s river “Manzanares”, near the “Vicente Calderon” stadium, hours before the match between “Atletico Madrid” and “Deportivo de la Coruna”.
After the brawl, involving around 200 people, Policia arrested 82 individuals and 4 were imprisoned accused of causing Jimmy's death, but last May the Magistrates ordered their release lacking evidence they participated in the event.
"Jimmy" |
Policia maintained accusation against the 4 alleged perpetrators, who were joined by 2 more detainees today allegedly involved in the events that led to the death of the “Coruña” supporter.
Investigation made clear - both Jimmy and the other supporter who survived - were thrown into the river by the same group of aggressors in the space of 43 seconds. Although the judge freed the first 4 accused of the murder, he upheld the accusation of involvement in the brawl.
On 18th December, the judge sentenced 3 alleged perpetrators to prison without bail, although none admitted their involvement in the events during their statement to the Magistrate.
Five days later, the Judge ordered a fourth person arrested in Valencia in to prison also accused of the death of Jimmy.

CLUBBING OVER 40 IN MADRID
MADRID NIGHTLIFE REVIVAL
PACHA (1980 - 1996) |
If, like me, you were a regular at PACHA, loved the sofas at JACARA, remember a swimming pool at OH!, or knew ATTICA wasn't a an island off Greece, it’s likely we partied when there were more than 4,000 nightlife venues open in Madrid, however, going out lately is reduced to only 4 times a year, according to a recent survey...
JACARA (1986 - 1991) |
JACARA ~ 1989 |
Around 500,000 people go out every week (28% are tourists) and 50% are aged 40 to 54, but they only go out once a month, based on data from Madrid Nightlife Entrepreneur Association “Noche Madrid”.
This reveals an issue that affects thousands of mature adults...
Nightlife Disconnection!!
Are your grandparents having more fun than you? |
Armed with courage, after launching the most advanced logistics (children with babysitter or grandparents, overcoming the attraction of a comfy armchair or decline invitations to drink at a friend’s house), they get up and by midnight they’re in some random bar, surrounded by youngsters that could very well be their own children while ordering a drink...
Wondering where last 20 years of your life went?
MADRID NIGHTLIFE
Concert lovers have an easier job. "Madrileños never stop going to the same concert venues, although they go less often, they known well where to go," according to "Asociación de salas de espectáculos y Música en Directo de Madrid La NOCHE en VIVO” (Live Entertainment and Music Clubs in Madrid), which promotes 46 venues.
When concerts cost 1.000 Ptas (€6) |
However, many 40+ face serious lack off up-to-date information problems. Give it a try and ask around:
- Who hasn't experienced the sense of total failure after returning home early on a Saturday night without finding a decent bar or nightclub?
Barón Pocholo, 52, reappers at night |
"La Movida Madrileña" (1980 - 1995)
This generation who partied is going out again after a few years of negligible nocturnal activity, mainly due to the responsibilities of parenthood and the economic crisis; and they’re doing it with specific demands. They want a place that combines: local cuisine, drinks and dancing.Nightlife Entrepreneurs "Noche Madrid" are adapting to these demands but with some troubles: "Venues are designed for the 20+, everything has changed radically. Red tape is complex and we need to cooperate with the authorities to adapt to changing times."
Jesus del Pozo, Elena Benarroch, Javier Mariscal, Miguel Bose, Carlos Berlanga Ana Torroja, Lolita Flores, Mercedes Mila, Bibi Anderson, Pedro Almodovar |
Federacion Española Bebidas Espirituosas |
Nightlife has changed, it is more mature and calmer [and so am I]. We have become radical beer drinkers. Since 2007, according to the Spanish Drinks Federation “Sales of SPIRITS has dropped by 40%”.
*Drink Sensibly* |
Nowadays, Gin is more popular but whiskey is still the most consumed, followed by rum.
The 40+ [grown-up clubbers] have two things clear:
- Their favourite brand.
- They order drinks that require careful preparation.
A quick, cheap and poorly mixed drink is just not good enough.
Does clubbing stop at 40?

SEX IN PUBLIC IN MADRID
Amateur Public Sex in Madrid (Video)
Maybe more typical in Magaluf, Benidorm, or any other tourist destination on the Spanish coast notorious for controversial sexual behaviour, but this time, in the heart of Madrid
Specifically, next to the traffic lights that control the crossroads on “Calle Cea Bermudez” and “Calle Guzmán El Bueno”, by Metro station “Islas Filipinas”.
Coincidently, not far from the famous nightclubs “Penelope” and “MITTY (Cats)” and the infamous [OMG! This place opens at 6 am..] after-hours “Soniquete”.
Regardless, the actual location chosen by this couple - of unknown nationality - to have sex in public, was well lit by lampposts and dangerously close to Madrid nightlife traffic.
However, as seen in the video, the youngsters froze for several seconds during their blind moment of passion... while the driver jokingly threatened to "post the video on Facebook". He did. Enjoy.

This incident was witnessed by several passers by. One driver felt compelled to film the scene. This local, who by chance had stopped at the red light, took out his mobile phone, filmed the couple having sex, while encouraging them to shamelessly continue.
