LESS NIGHTLIFE :(

New Law: Nightclubs CLOSE 2 Hours Earlier

Menorca Suffers Antisocial Behavior

Let's face it, this probably happens in most cities around the world, right?!

What's the perfect balance between nightlife and local neighbors' right to rest?

In the UK, “workers have the right to 11 hours rest between working days” (e.g. if they finish work at 8 pm, they shouldn’t start work again until 7 am the next day).

In Spain, nightclubs are allowed to open from 12 Midnight until 5 am during the week, and until 6 am at the weekends.

Article 7 allows “Special hours during the holiday period”, that is, from June 1st to September 15th, when nightclubs can close at 6.45 am.

If nightclubs close between 5 am and 6.45 am and work starts at 7 am...

There is a local concept known as "Empalmar" [To Splice. No, not an erection!] when someone goes straight to work from exiting a nightclub. Do not pass go and no sleep in between.

Yep! People do this in Spain and that's why they have a specific verb to perfectly describe this action. Ask any local if you don't believe us.

Anyway...

Mahón City Council will meet today (28 July) with the idea to modify the bylaw regulating venue opening times for bars and nightclubs.

The initial government proposal, according to the Deputy Mayor Vicenç Tur, is to REDUCE by 2 HOURS opening times for nightlife venues - so bars will close at 2 am and nightclubs will turn their music off at 4 am... Oh Dear God!

Apparently, this is when most antisocial behavior is reported?!

What do you think about this?
