LAST MINUTE NEWS! The Municipal Police set up last weekend special controls in which 369 cars were stopped at 28 locations around the city. 4% breath tests were positive, as reported by Madrid City Council. 

In addition, on the night of Friday 25 to Saturday 26 July, 15 reports were made for violations of the Road Traffic and Road Safety Acts, specifically for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  TWO people were arrested. FIVE other drivers were charged with crimes against road safety.

These controls are intended to reduce the number of fatalities from road traffic accidents [colissions]. Operations carried out by the Police Traffic Unit. 

BEHAVIORAL CHANGES

Although driver behavior has changed in regard to alcohol consumption during leisure activities - if you then have to get in to a car.  They will continue to carry out alcohol tests and collaborates in campaigns with the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) on these issues and the implementation of special controls. 

The detailed study of data relating to such controls by Municipal Traffic Police Accident Unit, allows the deployment of control taking place in areas, times and specific locations. Their business model has led to the conclusion that better results are achieved without the need for a greater number of breath tests, sometimes adversely affecting the mobility of drivers?
