Sabadell City Council Unanimously Approved Negotiations with Barcelona Nightlife Entrepreneurs

PRESS RELEASE via SPAIN NIGHTLIFE

Controversial “Gracia” Plan, forcing 13 nightclubs to close this week, will be modified

Sabadell City Council (25 Km from Barcelona) celebrated on May 26 approved an agreement covering the following three points, with the affirmative vote from all the political groups:

1. Start a constructive dialogue between the Council and entrepreneurs known as the “Zona Hermética” for a negotiated nightlife activities are provided in areas to be agreed.

2. While such agreements are produced, modify the Special Plan for recreational use and restoration of Gracia de Sabadell.

3. Start the necessary changes in land-use planning (Plan), previous study and agreement among all political forces, all that matters regulated in Article 27 of Law 11/2009, of July 6, regulating management of public entertainment and recreational activities. We cite as examples the points 2a and 2b:

a) Promote a range of leisure quality, without excluding its practice in the consolidated city, facilitate dissemination of performing arts as a cultural manifestation and promote balance between the rooms small, large and medium capacity.

b) Evaluate the distribution and leisure locations within the territory considering the adaptation to the environment, the economic, safety, health, the risks to people and property and coexistence among citizens.

The president of the Association of Local Hermetic Zone, Joan Cosp, has welcomed the agreement because "responds to the need for dialogue that we have claimed from the beginning, and that finally seems to be produced, and also with the consensus of all political groups. " In this sense, Cosp sees positive that "viability is offered to operators of premises", but believes that "the agreement comes a little late, as there have been plenty of time to negotiate and to resolve this situation before, which is a legacy of the previous municipal government. "

Cosp expects the first point of the agreement, which calls for a constructive dialogue between the city and entrepreneurs "to occur as quickly as possible because we are all interested in soon find a way out, from operators to workers local, through user-music bars and discos that are running. Nobody wants to live in uncertainty. "

Finally, Cosp recalls that "we are the first interested in Sabadell not any metropolitan capital nightlife of Barcelona, and the reality is that the current offer of Hermetic area has been reduced to a third in the last 10 years, with a consequent reduction in capacity, which has grown from 12,000 to 3,300 people, so today is perfectly sustainable and compatible with the rest of the neighbours of Gràcia ".

Meanwhile, Joaquim Boadas de Quintana, Secretary General of Spain Nightlife wanted to thank all the political groups in the City Council the effort made to address and resolve a very serious problem affecting 13 entrepreneurs nightlife and more than 400 locations I work in a sector that often is not taken into account and has finally concluded that it has reached an understanding between businessmen and politicians.
